Summary
From an author “destined to become a titan of the macabre and unsettling” (Erin A. Craig, #1 New York Times bestselling author), a haunting debut—soon to be a Netflix original movie—about two homeowners whose lives are turned upside down when the house’s previous residents unexpectedly visit.

As a young, queer couple who flip houses, Charlie and Eve can’t believe the killer deal they’ve just gotten on an old house in a picturesque neighborhood. As they’re working in the house one day, there’s a knock on the door. A man stands there with his family, claiming to have lived there years before and asking if it would be alright if he showed his kids around. People pleaser to a fault, Eve lets them in.

As soon as the strangers enter their home, inexplicable things start happening, including the family’s youngest child going missing and a ghostly presence materializing in the basement. Even more weird, the family can’t seem to take the hint that their visit should be over. And when Charlie suddenly vanishes, Eve slowly loses her grip on reality. Something is terribly wrong with the house and with the visiting family—or is Eve just imagining things?

This unputdownable and spine-tingling novel “is like quicksand: the further you delve into its pages, the more immobilized you become by a spiral of terror. We Used to Live Here will haunt you even after you have finished it” (Agustina Bazterrica, author of Tender Is the Flesh).

The imagery and tension in this book made it so realisticly terrifying. I couldn't put it down. However the ending leaves so many loose ends and unanswered questions, the story feels unfinished. Hopefully there is a sequel in the works.

So much hype on this one, but I had to force myself to finish it. Not a fan. Think it could’ve been epic but feel like the plot was half developed or something. Just a very disjointed and confusing story with little to no closure. 10/10 don’t recommend

The story was hard to follow, though the concept was unique.

This is an exhausting, disjointed journey through a kaleidoscope of incomprehensible events. Just as you think you’ve grasped a thread of meaning, it slips away, leaving you to wade through yet another chapter of baffling occurrences. By the time you reach the end—a conclusion that offers no resolution or insight—you’re left questioning not the narrative but why you persevered in the first place.

I definitely have to disagree with the majority of readers… I thought this audiobook was fantastic. The thriller aspect kept me at the edge of my seat… yes unanswered questions, but it leaves room for the reader’s imagination. The narrator is amazing as well - portrayed the characters well.

I was looking forward to this book from all the rave reviews on social media. I really wanted to like it but it was just ok. The first half of the book was good and just enough to keep me intrigued, but then it reached a point where the story felt rushed and was just confusing and weird. Had high hopes but left unsatisfied.

I bought this book because of Book Tok on TikTok. It was a good read. The last 2 hours of the book was a wild ride. A wee bit hard to follow. I will have to listen to the book again to try to figure out the ending! I’m still confused. The narrator was awesome!

I’m not sure why it only has 3.5 stars. I found it quite enjoyable. It kept me interested.

The book was very good. Kept you interested throughout the whole thing I want to say I hated the end, but I didn’t. It isn’t the way I wanted it to end. It definitely keeps you thinking. You will not be disappointed with this book.

This was my first spooky book recommended by BookTok, and it did not disappoint. The narrative was easy to follow, yet it kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. I would highly recommend it to friends and family.
